Access Students Celebrated an American Holiday in Batken

TOKMOK ACCESS STUDENTS CELEBRATE THE VICTORY DAY

On  May  10th,  2011  Tokmok  ACCESS  Microscholarship   Program  students  had  a  special  class  devoted  to  the  celebration  of  the Victory  Day.  Teachers presented information  about  the  history  of  this  great  holiday.  Afterwards, students  read  the  text  about  the celebration  and  symbols  of  the Victory  Day.  They  learned  about the countries  and  former  USSR  cities  where this  holiday  is  celebrated.  They  learned  about  the  history  of  the  main  symbol  of the Victory  Day- the  ribbon  of  Saint  George.  They  saw  pictures  about  the  most  important  events  of  the  World  War  II.  Students read and  discussed  the  text “ War  Nightmare.”  At  the  end  of  the  class,  students  shared  how  they  had  celebrated  the Victory  Day  on  May 9th  in  their  families.  The  class  was  very  interesting  and  students  learned  a  lot  of  new  information  about  the  second World War.

Access Skype Conference in Osh and Batken

On the 9th of June, 2011 there was a Skype conference between English Language Fellows Colleen Shaughnessy and Dimetria Li, and Access teachers from Osh and Batken. During the conference, they discussed the upcoming Access events including the Summer Camps. The ELFs advised to the teachers in solving the logistical issues, organizing the interactive activities, and conducting the Summer Camps. The teachers were happy to learn new ideas and to receive feedbacks from Colleen and Dimetria through this effective medium.

Access Skype Conference for Kant and Karakol Teachers

On 30th of May, 2011 a Skype conference was conducted between Kant and Karakol Access teachers. Fortunately, Peace Corp Volunteers Amber Dunse and Anna Laerd took an active part in this event. They came up with brilliant ideas for both Kant and Karakol groups of teachers. The aim of the conference was to share ideas of organizing and managing the Access summer camp in order to make it more effective and useful. During the conference a lot of questions were discussed, such as “ Presentation of Crafts, sharing experiences”, “ Interactive games”,” Talent show”, “Music Club”, “Outstanding women of USA and Kyrgyzstan”, ”Competition of dramas”, “ Preparation of wall papers about the Summer camp by groups”, and teachers gave comments and advices to each other.

Memorial Day in Kant

On the 25th of May the Access Students took part in a presentation devoted to Memorial Day. The presentation was made by the American corner staff members. There was a lot of information about the day. Some students recited poems about the war. Very informative quiz was conducted by the American corner coordinator. The students were able to answer all of the questions. The most exciting moment for students was the visit of the U.S. Embassy representatives in Kyrgyzstan. Robin Solomon, Public Affairs Outreach Officer told a lot about the Memorial Day, and then she was asked different questions by the participants. That was a good conversation containing quite different aspects of life (country’s heroes, languages, travelling, hobby, school life, music, and reading). The students were happy to know more about the American people and their holidays.

“Supporting our elders is our responsibility” community project held in Talas city

On Tuesday, April 19th, 2011 five Access Program students went to Kymaryk to meet and offer support to Osmonkulov Ubaly, who is a former community leader.  He worked as a director of the collective farm during Soviet times and was head of the Agricultural Department in Kara-Buura Region for 25 years.

The Access Program students began their visit by becoming acquainted with Osmonkulov Ubaly.  They asked questions about his past duties and his life.  They talked about his childhood and his studies at the Agricultural Institute.  Then, they went out to the yard and watered the flowers and trees.  They dug a garden where seeds can be planted in the future.  Everyone worked hard and enjoyed the project.  Osmonkulov Ubaly was happy and the students promised to come again.

Batken Access students make others happy

On 22nd of April, 2011 Access Students from Batken celebrated the International Earth Day. Students along with the teachers discussed the history of this holiday, they sang songs, played games, guessed crosswords, and planted different kind of flowers in the school garden.

Teachers and other students thanked Access students, saying that these flowers will grow and will make everybody happy with their beauty.

ACCESS STUDENTS CELEBRATE THE EARTH DAY

On  April  25th,  2011  ACCESS  Microscholarship  Program  students  in  Tokmok  celebrated  the Earth  Day.  Access teachers did a presentation  about the Earth  Day  and  students  were  able   to  learn  about  the  history  of  this  holiday  and  the  ways  people  celebrate  it  around  the  world.  Before, Access students in Tokmok didn’t know about the existence of this holiday.  During  the  event  students  read  the  text  on  the topic,  solved  the  Earth  Day  crosswords  and  puzzles,  they  draw  pictures,  discussed  the  environmental  problems  of  Tokmok  and  made  suggestions  what  they  can  do to  help  to  solve  them.  As  a  feedback,  students worked in several groups and created  the  posters  devoted  to  Earth  Day,  and   presented  them  to each other. After  the  class,  several  students  shared  the  information  and  presented  their  posters  to other  students  in  TOEFL center in Tokmok.  All the students found the Earth Day activity very informative and interesting

Karakol Access students visit the local orphanage house

Karakol Access students visited the Orphanage “Irada” on the 20th of April, 2011. They brought to children toys and sweets and performed them a wonderful concert with many dances, songs, and poems. They played many entertaining games and made good friends with each-other. The children and the Administration of the Orphanage expressed their gratitude to Access Students and invited them to visit again.

Access Students organize Community Project in Kant

On February 25, 2011 ACCESS Microscholarship Program students from Kant visited kindergarten “Romashka”. Students of ACCESS program played very interesting games with 50 wonderful children. Kids liked the game “Sunny-introduction – let’s introduce” very much, students invited children to say their names, including the greeting “Hello”. Access participants also have prepared the performance “Welcome to Access Program in Kant”. During the event students were involved with children in sport competitions.  Then some students danced the dance “Rabbits”. After, Access students presented the balloons with the wishes to the children. Both, kids and students had so much pleasure spending time together.
